DW: MIDNIGHT SPOILERS

I HAVE NO WORDS. THAT EPISODE WAS AMAZING. SERIOUSLY, ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE EPISODES OF NEW WHO, HANDS DOWN. I AM IN LOVE WITH RUSSELL T DAVIES ALL OVER AGAIN BECAUSE HE CLEARLY LOVES 'LORD OF THE FLIES' THE SAME WAY I DO. ABSOLUTE FUCKING LOVE FROM ME, RTD.

Seriously though, this was such a good Tenth Doctor episode. Such a good summary of who he is, I think. The beginning bits, all the fade-ins to all the different conversations? That was painfully good and sweet and heart-warming. And then the slow build into hysteria? And that horrific silence in the aftermath? Ugh, I'm sorry, I'm just overwhelmed. It was so good. I can't even articulate my feelings.

And Donna and the Doctor! So fucking sweet. I love them. I nearly cried with my love for them.

Tennant fucking BLEW MY MIND at least six different times, as did pretty much everyone else in the episode. Even Claude, who only had like six lines. The performances were unbelievable. The direction, too.

YES!! YES!! YES!!! I just wrote a long post extolling the virtues of this episode, RTD and David Tennant. FABULOUS, AMAZING episode. I loved it so much.

THAT IS AN INSPIRED IDEA I THINK I WILL TOO

I AM AS EXCITED ABOUT THIS EPISODE AS THE DOCTOR IS ABOUT THE KITTEN IN YOUR ICON TRUFAX

[identity profile] flinkkamingo3.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
ME TOO! IT IS A MIXTURE OF EXCITEMENT AND PLEASANT SURPRISE, BECAUSE TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST, THIS IS THE FIRST EPISODE I'VE HARD CORE LOVED SINCE UTOPIA IN S3

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I hard-core loved "Partners in Crime" too. But, along with PiC, yeah, this is the first one I've loved as much since "Utopia."

This was just a spell-binding hour of television. Amazing.

[identity profile] flinkkamingo3.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
PiC would definitely be number two if I had to make a list of my favorite episodes so far this season, but it didn't give me that same wow feeling this episode gave me. I only saw it the once, though, so who knows, maybe if I went back and watched it again I'd appreciate it more.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, you are right. It was definitely a good one, but doesn't compare to "Utopia" or "Midnight." It's a shame really that the writing most of this season hasn't been as up to par as the first three because -- as much as I do love Rose -- Donna is just a new definition of awesome.

Hopefully, the final three eps will carry on as awesome as this one and we'll get a great send-off to the season and RTD's tenure.

AGREED YES UTOPIAAAA

[identity profile] orange-crushed.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
YES.

Oh my GOD it was GREAT. It was funny and light and ensemble-casty in the beginning (that's how to make us care about characters we don't know) and then the descent. Into absolute madness. And you're right, it was a real shining moment for Tennant, who got to be all over the place in a good way.

(And I laughed like a goon when the teenager made the creature say "six-six-six." Oh, that was so funny and so wrong.)

And the way they filmed Sky with the lights making her shadow on the wall OH GOD IT WAS TERRIFYING AND AWESOME.

And the way they filmed Sky with the lights making her shadow on the wall OH GOD IT WAS TERRIFYING AND AWESOME.

YES. I was just noticing that on rewatch! Such a cool choice.

And then the way they did the lighting for her again when she's talking on her own at the end, when she's standing there in the center of all of them with the lights shining down and all the rest of them in shadow? So good. Like, everything was just really well done and wonderful. This makes me feel really wonderful, hopeful things about the rest of the season.

I AGREE SO HARD WITH EVERYTHING IN THIS POST.

YES, JUST...YES. :D :D

LOVVVVEEEE

[identity profile] afrocurl.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not usually one to extol the virtues of RTD, but that shit was impressive.

[identity profile] the-spin.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was! I do generally like his writing though; all of my favorite episodes of New Who are his, with the exceptions of Girl in the Fireplace and Blink. I think he's absolutely churned out a clunker or two, but on the whole I really like his writing.

It's probably because I'm not an Old Who purist, though. I mean, I watched and loved a lot of the old series growing up, but I also thought a lot of it was pretty bad, so I don't mind all the changes I guess?
